Dragon Age: Origins – Review

Posted by admin on Thursday, November 26th, 2009

At the beginning of this month Bioware released its latest fantasy RPG for both PC and consoles, and ever since then it’s been raining roses, praises and applause. But is it really that good or are we again witnessing the power of EA’s marketing’s machine combined with the strength of the hypnotized masses? We’ve invested a few days of gameplay into it to find that out for you.

The character customization section that you will need to go through at the beginning of the game is decent enough and there is a pretty good variety of elements you can mix together in attempting to create something to suit your tastes. But don’t expect it to be extraordinary, because it’s far from it: you can create something… humanoid, but don’t try to create a character that looks, walks and talks just like you because you’ll be wasting your time. … More

Apparently video games industry veteran Jeff Strain feels the same way, as he has recently announced the formation of Undead Labs, a game development studio based in Seattle that will focus on online games. But not any kind of online games, but the definitive massively multiplayer online zombie game (MMOZ). So double undead trouble!

Strain left NCSoft last summer (we hear a roar of applauses in the background) with the declared goal of building from the ground up, together with a few of the most talented developers, a creative studio that targets a new breed of MMO for console gamers. … More

Run for your life

Posted by admin on Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

I wanted to tackle this subject in writing for quite a while, but I just couldn’t find the spark to trigger it. But the text emphasized on how you can relax your body, calm your mind and achieve physical and inner balance right in your living room. For me that last part triggered an episode of nervous laughter, muscles spasms and the urge to smash something. First, because I was already in my living room, calm, relaxed and balanced until that piece of news came and ruined it for me. Second, because I consider that all forms of physical exercises should have nothing to do with electronics such a TVs and plastic white boxes that dare to call themselves gaming consoles … More

Game Cutscenes

Posted by admin on Sunday, November 15th, 2009

Can’t live with them and … actually we can live without them, but it’s like living without chocolate: sure, you don’t miss it for a while, but then you start having blackouts, the neighborhood pets start disappearing with no explanation, you notice you unknowingly bought a chainsaw and that you suddenly feel attracted by the full moon. So let’s just leave the cutscene where they are for now, at least until I finish with this tiny text-pill and then you can do whatever you wish with them.

Cutscenes appeared as a by-product of some game-developer’s need to tell us more of the stage on which his characters perform, about their emotions and needs, about the story and about some other things we never actually care about. … More
