The EA Play Label of Electronic Arts Inc, announced on April 5, 2011 that The Sims 3 Generations, an expansion for the original game, is in development and is set for release this spring. In The Sims 3 Generations players will be able to control characters in different stages of their lives and enjoy humorous and memorable moments from childhood and teenage years to adulthood.

Riot Games, developer of League of Legends, has released today a set of high-def images showing the concept art behind Lin Sin – The Blind Monk, one of the game’s champions.
League of Legends is an online game based on the highly popular DotA concept, first introduced for Warcraft III: Frozen Throne. Teams of up to five player-controlled champions battle on a map filled with AI controlled turrets and minions. Killing those or any of the opposing champions yields experience and thus allows the players to develop the skills and abilities of their own champions. The game’s ultimate goal is to breach the opponents’ defenses and destroy their base, or according to the game’s terminology, their Nexus. … More

Capcom has confirmed that a new installment in the extraordinarily successful Resident Evil saga is currently in development for the PlayStation3, Xbox 360 and PC. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, currently scheduled for release this winter, is the result of a collaboration between Capcom and Slant 6 Games, a Vancouver based studio. The announcement comes with the promise that the game will take the series in a completely new direction and will introduce a style of gameplay yet to be seen from the franchise.

After mixed critical responses and contrary to what many expected, the first person shooter published by THQ has passed the “key break-even level”. According to Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian, with an unexpected figure of 2.4 million units sold the game has now surpassed the level which makes it profitable for the publishing company THQ. Homefront also sets some records for the current year, becoming the best-selling console debut of 2011. The game has sold 375 thousand units in the US in its first day and holds the pole position in the UK charts.

Ashley Mitchell broke into the Zynga mainframe, stole the identities of two company employees and thus managed to transfer 400 billion virtual gaming chips into his own account. The chips, valued at approximately $12m (£7m) by the prosecution, were then partially sold to other gamblers through Facebook. According to The Guardian, Mitchell made £53,612 over a two month period, funds then used to fuel his own gaming addiction. Mitchell pleaded guilty to one count of computer misuse and four counts of money laundering, and was also sentenced to an additional 30 weeks in prison for breaching a 40-week suspended sentence from 2008, received for hacking into the computer system of Torbay council, his former employer. His final sentence two years jail time. … More

The game developed by Volition is set to be released in May 2011 on XBOX360, PS3 and PC and promises to set new standards for game defining physics-weaponry in the shooter genre. The action takes place under the surface of the Mars in ice caves and lava tubes, fifty years after the resistance originally freed the red planet. The players, walking in the shoes of Darius Mason, will fight against a new horrifying evil that threatens to extinguish all life on the planet.

With seven open beta sessions under its belt, Rift: Planes of Telara is probably one of the most polished fantasy MMORPGs at launch. A demo for the upcoming Men of War: Assault Squad, an RTS based on the WW2 military clashes, was released today by Lace Mamba and 1C Company. It features the single player campaign introductory level focused on the Pacific War battles. Upon completion of this level, players will be allowed to also try a skirmish mission set in the European Theater. According to Lace Mamba Global the release date for the game is set on April 22, 2011, in UK, Australia, New Zealand, the Benelux countries and Greece.

Dead Space 2, the survival horror developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts, was one of the most highly anticipated games of the last twelve months. After its release it sky-rocketed in top positions in software charts across the globe and in the UK alone it stood anchored in pole position for two consecutive weeks with competitors such as Call of Duty: Black Ops and Little Big Planet 2 at its heels. And all this not without merit as the game takes the horror genre one step further. A little step, a tiny one even, but nevertheless taken in the right direction.

Two Worlds 2 or 2W2 is an RPG (Role-playing game), sequel to Two Worlds, developed by Reality Pump and published by TopWare Interactive. The game was released on November 9, 2010 in Europe, January 25, 2011 in North-America and on February 25, 2011  in the UK for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. At first I was a bit skeptical about it, and that’s mainly because of the problems that the previous installment had, but giving the game a chance resulted in an amazing experience defined by hours of dynamic gameplay, challenging and sometimes frustrating battles, entertaining mini-games and moments of sheer joy which accompanied key moments of the game. … More
