Ubisoft is renowned for using the same IP for countless iterations until it has been sucked dry of any novelty or appeal. So the press release that surfaced today, announcing a new installment for the Prince of Persia series has the same surprise value as the night-day cycle.

The video game currently in development is called Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and the storyline behind it will naturally complement the one on which Sands of Time has been build upon. The French developer has promised a gameplay experience that will follow in the footsteps of the previous game, but enriched with innovations that will not disappoint the fans of the famous series.

The date on which owners of consoles and handhelds will be able to enjoy once more the never-ending adventures of the oriental hero is 10^th of May, 2010. Considering that the movie of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is due to be released on the 28^th of the same month, one can only imagine the enormous hype that will be build around this brand in the second quarter of the following year.

The exclusive world premier of the Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands trailer will be featured  on Spike TV’s “Video Game Awards 2009″ on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 8pm EST.
